Mission Community Farm

A group of volunteers are hatching a new and exciting project for Mission!

Vision Statement 

Where everyone in Mission has access to nutritious, culturally appropriate food, grown in a way that regenerates land and restores biodiversity.

Mission statement

To develop a regenerative permaculture incubator farm to support new and aspiring farmers and educate the surrounding community. 

The Mission Community farm has several components:

  • Working Permaculture Farm with:
    • Individual plots created for aspiring farmers to learn their business, providing access to viable land that is otherwise unaffordable.
    • ‘Commons’ area for teaching purposes & increasing community food security.
  • Permaculture Education Centre:
    • To provide mentoring and hands-on education for the program’s aspiring farmers in sustainable, regenerative farming practices and running a farm business.
    • To educate the wider community in food production methods adaptable to backyard growing through workshops and community events.
    • To foster engagement, social wellbeing & community recreation by connecting people with and around their food sources.

Principles and Values: 

We are committed to permaculture principles of caring for the people, caring for the earth and sharing the surplus by:

  • Supporting local food security by producing and contributing to the local food system through the education of farmers and production of farm products, services, and activities.
  • Ensuring the stewardship of the land using permaculture and regenerative farming principles and practices for the benefit of present and future generations.
  • Advancing wellbeing, social inclusion and educational experiences for members and the broader community.

Program needs:

  • Obtain land suitable for a permaculture farm – 5-10 acres
  • Operating funding including employing a Program Director and Permaculture Instructor $100k per annum.
  • Start up funds for tools & infrastructure – $100K
