Nicole Bellay is presenting short talks about actions individuals can take to reduce their carbon footprints.

You will learn about the many actions we can take right now to reduce our energy needs and move towards cleaner energy. Nicole will share her personal experience with home renovations and government rebates/ loans. But the talk is not only about house renovations; it’s also about small changes in our habits that can make a big change to our kids’ futures.

Talks last about 30 minutes with an additional 30 minutes for Q&A.

You will receive information to help you in making decisions – about big changes and small ones:

  1. A heat pump is 2-3 times more efficient than a gas furnace. AND it can cool your home during summer heat!  $123 yearly savings for the average house.
  2. Solar energy is renewable and plentiful. It is the cheapest energy in the world and the cost is decreasing every year.
  3. How much could you save by switching to an electric vehicle?  There are 8 cars in the $40,000 range, not counting the $5,000 rebate from the federal government!
  4. Banks use your deposits to invest in the fossil fuel industry.  Every $1000 in your account creates pollution equal to a flight from New York to Seattle.
  5. 30% of food produced is thrown away.  Learn ways to keep waste to a minimum, save money and lower your emissions.
  6. Animal products produce 10-50 times more GHGs than most plant-based food. The carbon footprint of beef and lamb is 3x higher than the carbon footprint of chicken, fish, or pork and at least 24x higher than that of lentils and beans.
  7. Active transportation improves your physical and mental health and creates less pollution.
